SUM undergraduate students pursue God, encounter his presence and engage with one another in weekly chapel services. This is a part of the overall spiritual formation plan to mentor students.
Here at SUM Bible College and Theological Seminary we do not take it for granted that we are able to come together for corporate worship and for the hearing of the Word of God. Being in the presence of fellow believers in worship is a source of joy and strength for our community.
All undergraduate students are required to attend chapel two (2) times per week, including the Chancellor’s Chapel held each Wednesday.
Chapels may be attended live on site, joined live online or watched via recording. The links to required chapels can be found on SUM’s Youtube page and are linked in the mentorship canvas course each term. Alternate video lists may be provided in the canvas course each term.
Main Campus:
The Chancellor’s Chapel meets in the chapel from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm PST every Wednesday during the term. Chapels are provided live and are recorded for use by online students and those at cohortlocations. An additional chapel is provided live on site each week.
Cohort Sites:
Students attending cohort locations attend their Visionary Leaders Chapel and watch or attend Chancellor’s Chapel live in person, by livestream, or by recorded version weekly.
Online:
Online students watch or attend Chancellor’s Chapel live in person, by livestream, or by recorded version and watch one additional pre-recorded chapel provided by SUM on Youtube weekly.
Spiritual Emphasis and Special Services:
Spiritual Emphasis services are held each trimester at the Main Campus and are broadcast for online and cohort students.. Class schedules are adapted and students are required to attend. All members of SUM dedicate twenty-one days of fasting in order to facilitate spiritual intimacy and community. Additional services, worship nights and guest speakers are provided throughout the term to develop the spiritual health of the SUM community.
Church Attendance:
In addition to the weekly chapel requirement, SUM requires students, staff and faculty to maintain an active church life and to attend Sunday church services. An essential part of the Christian life is developing one’s faith in the context of a local community of believers.
